Goals of the both the North Carolina Hereford Queen and North Carolina Hereford Princess
are to be able to represent the North Carolina Hereford Association and its breeders with knowledge, honor, and pride.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE NC HEREFORD QUEEN

A. Contestant must be at least 16 years old and not have reached 22 years of age by January 1 of the year that she will represent her state at the Junior National Expo as Queen.

B. Must be a member of good standing (yearly dues paid) of the North Carolina Junior Hereford Association, for at least one year, and a daughter or Granddaughter of a Hereford breeder who is a member of the NCHA and/or AHA or must own a Hereford animal.

C. A letter from the candidate must be submitted to the Queen Chairman, stating the candidate's reason for running for North Carolina Hereford Queen and what the candidate wants to accomplish as a representative for the state of North Carolina as queen. This letter should be submitted prior to the NCHA Annual Banquet in March of said year. A personal resume must accompany the letter. This must be submitted 15 days prior to the Annual March meeting.

D. Overall selection of the North Carolina Hereford Queen will be by a vote of the N.C. Pollette Board and will be based on general appearance, ability to communicate, general knowledge of the Hereford breed and beef cattle industry, personality and poise.

E. Must be a resident of the state of North Carolina (submit current copy of NCDL with candidate letter).

F. Must be single, never married, no children.

RULES FOR THE NC HEREFORD QUEEN

A. May serve as North Carolina Queen for the state association a second year with approval from the Pollette Board.

B. May compete for National Queen two years providing she did not win the National title and she has the approval of her state.

C. A candidate may not be queen/princess for another breed and a State/National Hereford Queen; she must be exclusive to the Hereford breed.

D. The sponsoring state organization must have at least one Pollette member with their national dues paid by August 1 of the year she is competing for National Queen.

E. A state queen may not attend a function outside their elected area in official state queen capacity unless personally invited by the host state.

F. Only the National Queen will wear white or off-white. For the National Show, each State Queen is to be dressed in a Blazer or Skirt (wool or wool blend), Boots, Tiara (No Hat) and Banner. At the Junior National Hereford Expo, Queens shall be dressed in a skirt, blouse with sleeves, boots, tiara (no hat) and banner at the events or activities designated as “Dress or Queen Events”. G. The North Carolina Queen should attend the Junior National Hereford Expo and is expected to attend the American Royal, the annual NCHA Banquet and Sale, the N.C. State Fair Junior Show and Open Show, plus be available to attend NCHA member’s sales and events on request.

H. The National Queen and State Queens are responsible for making their own room reservations.

I. The National Queen and State Queens may show at the Junior National Hereford Expo Show.

J. The National and State Queens may not show at the American Royal Show. They may enter cattle, but may not be involved in the care and exhibiting of the animals at the American Royal Show in KS.

K. The National Hereford Queen will be crowned during the American Royal Show. Runners-up will also be chosen.

L. Each State Queen will sign and return the conduct agreement to the National Queen Chairman before the Junior National Hereford Expo.

M. Any deviation from the expected behavior of the North Carolina Hereford Queen such as pregnancy, felony violation of the law, etc. will result in disqualification from the program.

N. The North Carolina Hereford Queen will not consume alcohol, use tobacco or drugs, or use obscene language while serving in any official capacity as queen.

O. In the event there are two or more girls running for Queen there will be an interview process in conjunction with the NC annual Meeting In March to determine who is crowned.

A. Contestant must be at least 13 years old by January 1 of the year that she will represent North Carolina.

B. Must be a member of good standing (yearly dues paid) of the North Carolina Junior Hereford Association, for at least one year, and a daughter or granddaughter of a Hereford breeder who is a member of the NCHA and/or AHA or must own a Hereford animal.

C. A letter from the candidate must be submitted to the Queen / Princess Chairman, stating why the candidate would want to be a North Carolina Hereford Princess. This letter should be submitted prior to the NCHA Annual Banquet in March of said year.

D. Overall selection of the North Carolina Hereford Princess (s) will be by a vote of the N.C. Pollette Board and will be based on general appearance, ability to communicate, general knowledge of the Hereford breed and beef cattle industry, personality and poise.

E. May have multiple candidates serving as North Carolina Hereford Princess.

F. Must be available to fill in if the NC Queen is unavailable or absent.

G. Must be able to attend the same functions as the NCHA Queen except the Junior National Hereford Expo and the Denver National Show.

The North Carolina Pollettes recommend before you apply for NC Hereford Queen or Princess you consider and ask yourself the following:

I am truly interested in the NCHA and I consider myself a good representative for my state and my breed. Do I have the desire and enthusiasm to handle the activities and requirements made of the queen and princess?

If chosen as North Carolina Hereford Queen, there must be no reason that you would not be able to attend the National such as school or college schedule conflict.

The Pollettes may give a monetary donation for queen attire, if the funds permit. You may try to raise money yourself for your expenses.

You must have the appropriate attire for all state functions including a tiara and state banner (furnished by the Pollettes).

The North Carolina Hereford Queen must be chaperoned at all overnight functions.
